How to play Daily Word

There's one hidden 5-letter word each day. You have 6 guesses to find it, and every guess has to be a real 5-letter word.

After each guess, every tile changes colour:

• Green: right letter, right spot.
• Yellow: the letter is in the word, but in a different spot.
• Grey: the letter isn't in the word.

Find the word within six guesses to win and keep your streak going.

• Start with common letters. A first word like SLATE or CRANE tests five of the most-used letters at once.
• Use your yellows. A yellow letter is in the word, so try it in a new spot next time.
• Don't reuse grey letters. They're not in the word, so a guess with one wastes a slot.
• Watch for double letters. Words like APPLE or SHEEP use a letter twice, so don't rule them out.

Is it the same word for everyone?

Yes, everyone gets the same word each day.

What counts as a word?

Any real 5-letter English word in the game's word list. Names and made-up words don't count, and a guess that isn't a word doesn't use up a try.

Every day at midnight Eastern.
